"Rooms tend to be a bit on the small side for a family of four, but as we don't spend much time there, it doesn't really matter too much. We have always chosen the 'Tom Sawyer'option rather than the mansions as you tend to feel very much 'in the southern atmosphere' there. The resort is an absolute treat and we would not even consider another. The food at the food court is varied enough if you are staying for one week. Any longer than that and it does tend to get a bit repetative. We have just booked our fourth trip to Riverside and we are very much looking forward to it. The resort is not in-your-face Disney. It is relaxing, well land scaped and the staff are very friendly and helpful. . The boat ride and the buses to and from the various Disney venues are (on the whole) punctual and kept clean though they do tend to get crowded at peak times. Check-in is fast and efficient - even at Easter! The concierge are helpful and knowledgeable. Taxis are easy to obtain from the little hut at the main entrance. The resort is an absolute treat and we would not even consider another." (6/03) Stefan Becker

"Our family of 14 stayed here at Easter 2001. We were really impressed with the cleaniness of it all. The food courts were always busy when we went to eat. The pools were really clean and not too crowded. I must say how impressed with the first response team. My 16 month old daughter had a febrile seizure on the day before we were due to fly home to the UK. I really can't praise them and the staff at the Disney Hospital enough, even though I had to produce my credit card before they would see to her. We were so impressed that we are going again in August, staying once again at the Port Orleans - Riverside (I can't wait)." (3/01) Nick Megson

"We stayed in Biulding 15. Loved the room and was always clean. We've stayed at other moderate resorts but Port Orleans Riverside is our faverite. The food court is very conveniate. Has great sticky buns for breakfast. We will be staying there again when we get back." (1/03) Jef

"We loved this resort and although we stayed at other disney resorts this was the most romantic and beautiful one of all i would stay at this resort everytime. The people are all friendly, and the pools are clean and great ,the food court is fantastic and affordable. The rooms are beautiful and affordable too. When we come back to disney world we will stay at no other hotel but Port Orleans west side. Here's wishing that all your dreams come true as ours did seven times already. You will feel as a child again and the parks are fantastic too. As Jimminy the cricket says when you wish upon a star your dreams do come true. Bring the kids they will love you for it as our grandkids will always say take us to Disney World again next time you go ,'please'" (1/03)

"The first time I was at Dixie Landings, I went with my grandmother for a week. We probably wouldn't have even been able to get to the busses if it wasn't for the awesome Cast Member at our hotel. The moment we got there, he, I forget his name, but I still get a Christmas card from him every year! Anyways, he took us to our room, got us situated then sat with us for about an hour explaining to us everything about Disney. He was like our own little personal travel agent! Considering we knew NOTHING when we arrived! I had such a great experience with Dixie, that when my family went back a few years later, we stayed there again. It was perfect for a family of 5 because we really didn't spend too much time at the hotel anyway! The rooms are clean, and even though we got stuck with a room in the middle of the boonies, we didn't mind. Dining was fine for breakfast, but we opted to do the fun restaurants in the parks for lunch/dinner. I would reccomend Dixie Landings to anybody! They're at the bottom of the price range, but not as cheap as the All Stars and you're not in your room much anyways!" Tara

"We stayed in Alligator bayou, 1st floor, on the corner next to food court. It was great, quiet at night, easy to walk over in the morning for breakfast then close to bus stop so it saved time. the food choice was good, pool fun We got a AAA rate that made it a nice upgrade from all sports for not much more $$ The room was very clean, and ther was a trundle bed which was great my 2 kids didnt have to share a bed they took turns on trundle. easier for getting them to sleep. the restaurant was pretty expensive so we stayed with the food court and brought cereal and snacks. Great, highly reccommend, I would stay ther again! maybe try the other side, mansions next time." (12/02) Kim

"Stayed there 3 times before, going again in October and again in April. We absolutely love it there! Highly Recommended. A++++" (9/01) Tyler

"Our stay at Riverside was a delight. Two complaints: 1) The resort incorrectly spelled our last name, so check in required 30+ minutes. Not appreciated after being on the road for twelve hours. 2) The last night we were there, we saw a few ants in the room. They were after my daughters soda. Overall, I highly recommend Riverside. The rooms are very small, but was adequate for three people. We did not spend much time loafing in the room. Somewhere I read that it is really a $50 room that costs $150. But the convenience of staying there is well worth the money. Buses run every fifteen minutes or so, and were never had a commute of over ten minutes. For us, the price of the room justified the travel services available. The pool was excellent. There are several large heated pools for adults, and a large pool complete with waterslide and waterfall. My four-year old daughter LOVED the slide. As with most things at Disney, everything is expensive. Cokes are $2.50 and a large glass of beer is around $5.00. Piece of advice, pack plenty of snacks and beverages. The resort is well maintained and is beautiful. The food is excellent and expensive. Take my advice, the only time to go to Disney World is the week after Labor Day. School is back in session, summer is officially over, and there was hardly anyone there. No waiting in lines for rides. Waiting time for Space Mountain is zero. Waiting time for Tower Of Terror is zero. We never even thought about using Fast Pass, because there were NO LINES. I refuse to stand around for 45 minutes waiting on a ride. It was perfect!" "Port Orleans Riverside was just as promised: quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. What a difference from All Star!!! I wish we had more time to enjoy the resort than we did, since we were always running out to the theme parks. The bunnies, ducks, and the ibis are still there and greet all who stop to say "hello." The landscaping is fantastic. You really feel as though you are in a whole new world. We stayed in Alligator Bayou Bldg #36. Our room was in view of one of the many "quiet pools." We were a bit far from the food court, but I really enjoyed the tranquility of the surroundings. We purchased the family plan for boating and biking. I loved riding my bike up to French Quarter in the morning while the rest of my family got ready. We also had unlimited use of the boats. My 13-year-old son was allowed to take out his own "water mouse," while my wife preferred the large "pontoon boats." We could dock the "pontoon boat" at Downtown Disney, go shopping for as long as we wanted, and then return to Port Orleans. How convenient!" (8/02) Kevin Casey

"I love Dixie Landings. I went with my family, it is truly a great resort for families. I love the Southern mansion atmosphere and the friendliness of the hotel staff. Disney is one of my favorite places to go. I'm getting married this week and we are staying at Carribean Beach for our honeymoon. I think it will be a great stay! Dining at the resort was alright, about all I remember is the good taco salad at the eatery. I would like to eat at many different places this time!" (8/02) Stephanie

"This resort needs some definite new housekeeping people. The room was clean when we arrived, but it was not cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis. I know that Disney's policy is to change bed linens every three to four days, but ours were not changed during our entire stay. The sinks and showers were not wiped down daily and the floor was never vacuumed. The only positive thing about housekeeping was that we did get clean towels everyday. We have stayed at Port Orleans-French Quarter when it was know only as Port Orleans. We really loved this resort and would have stayed there again but they removed the sit-down restraunt which is a necessity to us since we always eat a good breakfast. The restaurant at Riverside was okay but the menu was very limited for breakfast as well as dinner. The food court was okay for a quick bite to eat but we didn't feel it was a nutritious choice. As far as getting around Riverside, we were in Building 15 in the Alligator Bayou so we didn't have far to walk to get to the main building. However, I felt sorry for the people who were in Buildings 39 through 40 something since their walk was extremely long. If and when we plan another Disney vacation, we will seriously consider staying at another resort." (7/02) Marlene

"We were very impressed with everything at Riverside. It was our first visit to Disney World and if we go back someday we will stay at Riverside again (even if we can afford a different resort!). We stayed in Alligator Bayou in Bldg 16 which was a great location -- close enough to bus, food court and the pool. We requested a corner room at check-in and got it. Same size, just seems bigger because you get 2 windows. My 2 boys (ages 5 & 8) loved all the "wildlife" with bunnies , ducks, and lizards. Our room was clean and we had no complaints with the food court. Generally a minimal wait and we were impressed with the quantity of food. A great experience all the way around -- it was truly magical!" (5/02) Sandy Cwiok

"We had requested a room in a mansion building, but were told upon check-in that the mansions were closing on 12/9 so they were assigning us to a bayou building. We asked if we could stay at the mansion until the 9th and then switch to the bayou, and they said "sure". So we spent 8 nights in Parterre Place and then 7 nights in the bayou. It was neat to try out both. We liked the mansion room better, but the bayou location was more convenient and closer to the restaurants and b us stops. Housekeeping was wonderful -everything was great. We absolutely had a great time! Would stay at Riverside again for sure. Boatwrights is a great restaurant with huge portions. The food court is very convenient and the pizza was great - though a bit expensive, it was worth it to have it delivered to our room late in the evening. Was nice to have salads and juices to take along, too. We had a great time. Guest services was very accommodating and even called Mears bus service to book transportation to Universal Studios for us. The boats to Downtown Disney were not running at the time due to low occupancy, but the buses were very convenient and prompt." (12/01) Mary & Kevin Cox

"We stayed in Building 28 in Alligator Bayou. The themeing was excellent. The grounds and the room were very clean and well maintained. We liked the room and the restaurants there. Also the we liked the larger size of the resort shop. There seemed to be more to choose from than at the All Stars. The area around our room was nice and quiet. The only drawback to this resort is you can not get anywhere in a hurry. It is so large and there are so many people that the busses fi l l up quickly and it is quite a walk from the main building. Other than that we had a perfect stay. The restaurants were both very good. I am in favor of quick meals so that I can enjoy more of the parks. So the counter service restaurant was my pick. Something there for everyone." (6/01) Julie Smith

"We stayed in Alligator buyou blg #17 facing the river (we had requested a room close to the main building and were happy with the location). We arrived a little before check-in time and only had to wait a few minutes for our room to be ready. However, it was not fully cleaned and the bedding was missing from the trundle-bed. We called for the bedding but it never came.(thank god for extra towels!) Two days later we were finally able to get the bedding. The rooms are quite small a nd dark- just not up to "disney" par. The restaurant set-up is very convenient but would be nice if they offered healthier options. In the morning they were often out of coffee and hot chocolate. Juice at the all-you can drink area would be nice since they are in the orange juice state. The main pool is too small and always crowded. Opt for the smaller "quite" pools. I would stay here again if they brighten up the place a bit." (4/02)

"Our rooms were in the Alligator Bayou, Building 15. This was one of the closest buildings to the main building. The rooms were typical of Disney in size and structure and yet they differed with a Southern motif. The rooms were very clean. We even became friendly with the room attendant. She helped us with extra blankets and pillows. She even hid little souvenirs (soaps, stickers, etc) under my niece's pillow.
would highly recommend Boatwrights. They have scrumptious food and the service is excellent. When your waitress greets you she is carrying a huge mug and in it are the utensils and napkins that are simply pieces of soft fabric. I thought for a minute I was in Tom Sawyer story. My niece would proceed to go around the table and give everyone their fork, knife, spoon and napkin while we decided on our meals. One person I was with had a very strict diet and the staff was more than happy to accommodate her needs. Their dishes were of course Southern with a couple Cajun dishes. Colonel's Cotton Mill is the other big food area. There was a bakery and a grill here. This served food, which could be made quickly. I refuse to use the term "fast food" because every ounce of food including burgers has a wholesome quality to it. They were pure sirloin and grilled not fried. The meals here are also hearty. So if you have children they definitely could share. We did as adults. Now here is something both your children and you could be on the look out for. The pancakes they serve in the morning and all throughout the resorts and parks are shaped like Mickey Mouse. I talking so cute you almost don't want to eat them. This was my second time staying within Disney and it was as rewarding and enjoyable as the first time (I stayed at Caribbean Beach/CB)." (7/01) Gina

"We stayed at Riverside (formerly Dixie Landings) in 2000. I would suggest building 15 or 18. We stayed in 15 and it was centrally located from everything. I thought the room was very clean and the grounds are beautiful. The pool was nice, the kids had so much fun!! was surprised by the food, before we left I had anticipated bad food with high prices. The food court offered alot of choices and the prices were ok. We had brought breakfast items to eat in the room and it really saved money and time in the mornings!! I would really like to comment on the fact that this is the only resort (in the value/moderate) that can accomodate a family of 5. I have wrote Disney several times about this situation. I think Disney could offer another choice for a larger family. It is just not affordable to have to stay in their deluxe/home away properties." (9/00) L. Solomon

"I have always liked Port Orleans, the rooms are clean, and the staff is friendly. This time, though, we really noticed the noise. The pipes and toilets were very noisy throughout the day and night. This time we had a downstairs room, and you can hear the people upstairs. We were in building 34, it is a long way from everything. I was very disappointed that the boats are not running to downtown disney. That was 1 of our favorite things about staying here. Also, no one told us, but to get to the Magic Kingdom when it opens, you need to take the resort buses. We drove to the TTC and tried to get on the monorail, but they did not allow anyone onto the MK monorail or boats until 8:50. A very disappointing start to the day." (2/02) Dawn

"We stayed in Building 38 in the Alligator Bayou section. We had connecting rooms (5 girls, one set of parents). The rooms were clean, the staff was excellent and the toilets were loud. It was so peaceful and beautiful. The landscaping was gorgeous. The decor of the rooms was better suited for boys but is definitely a good hotel for children. We were close to the pool and the bus stop which was great for the teenagers in our group. The General Store was excellent and offered gifts and snacks.
The food at the Boatwright was very good and very plentiful (appetizers only needed for a full meal feeling). No one over the age of 10 was allowed to order from the childrens menu.
I would consider the Riverside again if I was going with children but would look elsewhere if it was adults only." (2/02) Tricia O'Rourke
