Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resort Pools

A shipwreck left behind by some imagined, century-ago seashore fate rises as the centerpiece of a two-and-a-half-acre water-playground at Disney's Yacht Club Resort and Disney's Beach Club Resort.

Guests enjoy a bounty of leisure opportunities at a well-equipped health club, Periwigs beauty salon, an electronic arcade, a bright and bouncy soda shop, volleyball, a lakeside marina and the mini-waterpark, all convenient to both hotels.

Mateys who dare can scramble aboard the shipwreck for a slide through the remains of a once-towering mast . . . down into twisting rock gorges and finally into the waters of Stormalong Bay. Toes curl in soft, white-sand stream-bottoms of a meandering lagoon where surprises await around every curve: a bubbling bay, whirling waters, sinking sand, waterfalls and three hot spas.

Guests can splash around three lagoon areas -- including one specially designed for younger water-lovers with a depth of 2 to 3 feet.

A spiral stair on board the life-sized shipwreck ascends to a 150-foot mast, broken and askew -- all the better to serve as a flume plummeting toward a rocky outcropping where 150 more feet of spins complete a fast-moving thrill-slide. Younger swimmers can test a scaled-down slide into the stern of the shipwreck.

For more sedate water fun, each hotel also features a "quiet pool" in alcoves far removed from Stormalong Bay. There also are motorized watercraft available at the marina, located on a 25-acre lake, as well as canopy and pedal boats, cruises and fishing excursions.

A tile-lined, 12-person Jacuzzi, reminiscent of the famous old health spas, is the centerpiece of the 4,750-square-foot Ship Shape Health Club. A steam bath, sauna and massage rooms also are included for relaxing moments after workouts on an array of machines that provide both weight exercises and aerobic conditioning.

The weight room includes 19 apparatuses -- eight that utilize computerization for weight and resistance, and 11 others of a more conventional nature using lead weights to exercise legs, abdomen and upper body.

The aerobics room is equipped with 12 machines -- five treadmills, four stationary bikes, three stepping machines and one rowing machine.

The club features staff trained to assist guests in use of the equipment and in training programs.
