If you're visiting Orlando in the summer, it can get unbearably
hot & humid. The best clothing to wear in the parks is shorts
& a t-shirt. Disney request that shirt & shoes are worn
at all times in the theme parks, i.e. no topless men (or women!),
or swimwear to be worn by adults in the parks.
I'd recommend wearing trainers, preferably with socks, to minimise
the risk of blisters. You might want to take along a spare pair
of socks, as it's not very pleasant walking around with squelching
feet when you've been on a water ride! You may think sandals will
keep your feet cooler, but all that walking can make them rub your
feet, and you end up with a crop of painful blisters.
If you're visiting in winter months (November-March) it can be
hot in the daytime, but the temperature can drop a lot after dark,
so a sweater or jacket would be a good thing to pack.
If you're taking kids to the parks, take along a swimsuit, as there
are interactive play fountains (Magic Kingdom, Epcot & Downtown
Disney), where they can cool down and get very wet.
At the water parks, the previous rule about no swimwear obviously
doesn't apply. However, they don't allow swimwear with rivets or
exposed metal, as they can damage the slides. It's sensible for
women to wear one piece swimsuits rather than bikinis, as bikini
tops have a tendency to work their way up when you go on the very
fast water slides!
A bum bag comes in handy when touring the parks, it's easy to carry
& access, and easier to manage on rides. Small rucksacks/backpacks
are also good for carrying essentials round. You can always leave
things in one of the lockers in the parks if need be.
Also, remember that it can get quite chilly on the plane, especially
on night flights. Make sure you pack a thin jacket or jumper in
your hand luggage. If you're leaving the UK in the cooler months
(August - July!) wear layers, so you can remove one or two layers
when you reach Orlando. The heat hits you as soon as you get off
the plane, and you'll soon regret wearing that big, fluffy jumper!
See the 'what to pack' page for more tips.
