Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville

"It took a lot to get me in a theme park...these guys have done a terrific job" Jimmy Buffett

Margaritaville, a state of mind, an attitude, a haven from the human condition…or all of the above. Jimmy Buffett's signature song and anthem for millions of Parrothead fans, is a search for the symbolic lost shaker of salt that ends with the realization that Margaritaville is, "anywhere you want it to be."

One particular Margaritaville can now be found in at Universal Studios CityWalk in Orlando, Florida. A fifteen thousand square foot hideaway featuring three unique theme bars, a center stage rigged with sail / projection screens for video display, outside patio and balcony seating, a state of the art sound system, oh yeah...and a 2-story erupting volcano.

The Landshark Bar, for sharks that swim on the land, is immediately to the left. The fin chairbacks, nautical mapped tabletops; Buddy Bear at the still and wildlife circling overhead feed the frenzy. A 20-foot sailcloth is available for photos, notes, faxes and business cards.

Across the dining area, the Volcano Bar shows signs of activity. Unsuspecting Pompeian Parrotheads relax in the shadow of the 18-foot tall volcanic mound when it suddenly erupts, spewing a river of molten margaritas down the molded chute into the infamous drinks' dispenser.

The Twelve-Volt Bar is on the second floor, braced on the back of the Florida Keys 7-mile bridge. There are two ways up, but by far the most scenic route is the staircase by the Landshark Bar. The vast expanse of the cafe presents itself; the Polynesian teak wood chairs anchored on the main floor marina under the starry night ceiling sprayed with astronomical Buffett icons.

Upstairs the rustic tin-roofed bar, is powered by a Diehard, and stocked by a bullet-riddled freezer - six holes, I think. Employees carved their names into the laminated bar top. (Try and find Jimmy's.) The sunset balcony overlooks CityWalk and two great theme parks, Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Islands of Adventure.

The food itself is a wonderful array of Caribbean, Cajun and fresh Florida fare. The extensive menu has been sampled and approved by Jimmy himself, and features some of his favorite dishes including the Cheeseburger in Paradise, Margarita Shrimp and Pasta, and a wide selection of fresh fish from Florida's Gulf and the Atlantic ocean, including Red Snapper, Sea Bass and Grouper. The retail store carries a wide selection of Margaritaville memorabilia, clothing, books, CD's, and collectibles.
