Day 1
We got to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween
Party on the night of the 30th. We went in costume
and wern’t disappointed, most everyone there was in one
sort of costume or another. I was a pirate, my son was a ninja,
my daughter wore her witch outfit one night and her Cinderella
dress the next, and my wife was Maleficent (from Sleeping Beauty).
It took quite a while to get across to the Magic Kingdom, there
was some problem with the boat, don’t know what. In any
case we got in about 8, so we found a good place to sit on the
curb in the Plaza and wait for the parade. I knew that the parade
started with the Headless Horseman. He was on my personal
short list of things I wanted to see, and this is the ONLY time
you ever get to see him. We waited just a few minutes till
the Headless Horseman rode by!! Since he gallops, and parade
doesn't, there was about a half an hour wait for the parade.
Since we were sitting on the curb outside Tony's Town Square
Restaurant it occurred me that the people who have outside seating
at Tony’s Town Square Restaurant have the parade walk right
past them!! You would have to time the reservations, and make
sure you get an outside table...but I think it might work. Will
have to do that someday. In any case the parade was good, but
all the Disney parades are good.
The Haunted Mansion Dancers
and their float were very good, and there wasn’t a villains
float, they came by on foot in formation, (so maybe it was broken,
that might be the reason for the delay?). The best part of the
parade though, by far, was the Gravediggers from the Haunted
Mansion. They would stop every few steps and spin their shovels
on the street, making sparks! Most impressive!!!
From there we
went to look for Stitch’s Disco Dance Party. My daughter
is a HUGE Stitch fan, so this was also on the list of MUST do’s.
The party was inside Cosmic Ray’s in Tomorrowland. We got
there about 5 min before the 9 o’clock show. My two year
old daughter was incredibly excited when she saw Stitch!! Stitch
was dressed as Elvis, so I was a little afraid she might not
recognize him.... BOY WAS I WRONG!! In any case she was so excited
she would have exploded from the sheer energy and joy. Were she
a bit older she would have thrown her panties up on the stage… but
she’s still in diapers so the effect isn’t quite
the same. It made the Beatles arrival in the USA look tame and
sedated by comparison. Everyone danced around and Stitch took
my daughter’s leash and danced with her! My son danced
with Pluto and proved to be an expert hoola hooper, and a great
time was had by all.
We got out about 9:30 and the and the fireworks
show was just finishing. Even though we were over in Tomorrowland
all I could say was WOW!. Truly this was shock and awe. Then we
went and did the Mad Hatter’s Trick or Treat Trail. We
must have gotten there at shift change (10 PM?) because Alice
changed out with the Mad Hatter just when we got there. We got
photos with the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts as we went
along and collected candy. My kids haven’t read Alice in
Wonderland so they didn’t know who the people handing them
candy were supposed to be; but as long as the chocolate kept
coming they didn’t care.
By now the10PM parade had started,
so my son and I went and did the Haunted Mansion and got our
picture taken while wife and daughter went to the Hall of Presidents
and got their picture taken. One of the Haunted Mansion ghost
dancers from the parade came by and talked with my daughter for
about 15 min. My wife was most impressed. (She got a photo)Then
we all went over and did Pirates of the Carribean… TWICE!
We were able to just walk right on. (My son got splashed by one
of the cannon shots, he loved it.)
By this time it was 11PM, and Captain Hook had
gone home (he hangs out by the Pirates ride) so we gave up on
our picture plans, all did the same and went back to the hotel.
