Day 5 - Part 3 Who Says Disney Isn't For Adults Too!?!?
Goofy
Guy wanted to pick up our Spirit of Aloha tickets at the front
desk before coming back with us to our rooms for bedtime. I found
it very convenient that he chose that particular time to go to
guest services. Could it be he wanted to remain the "cool uncle" just
as much as I wanted to remain the "cool aunt"? He promised to be
back in a few minutes.
I
learned today that a few minutes really means 45 minutes.
The boys were still pretty excited about their kryptonite ice cubes and Mickey
Mouse straws. I was really wondering how on earth I was going to get them to
go to sleep. They were still bursting with excitement. This was going to take
a miracle.
We got to their room where I noticed that ToT sis had laid out their pajamas
and toothbrushes. The boys went to their beds and, gasp, for a brief moment,
I thought they were going to change into the pj's on their own accord. But,
I should have known. They started jumping on the beds.
At the very least, Splashboy's stomach was feeling better.
I let them jump for a little while and even fought the urge to jump with them.
After all, it wasn't going to be my problem if the beds broke – we were
in Cocoa bil and ToT sis' room. It would be their problem.
But, for tonight, I had to play the adult role.
Damn.
After a few minutes, I suggested that we all brush our teeth. I held my breath.
One by one each boy went to the sink and brushed their teeth with no arguing
or pleading on my part. Sure Boomer left a big blob of toothpaste in the sink,
but his teeth were clean right? And sure when I asked him to clean the blob
up, he just rubbed it around a little with a Kleenex making it worse…but
at least he tried right?
Within moments, both boys were in bed and ready for a story. I had babysat
them a few times before and knew the bedtime routine. In fact, I'm somewhat
of a bedtime professional. What I failed to ask ToT sis earlier, however, was
if they brought any books with them on the trip.
They
didn't.
I
knew the boys were too wide-awake for lights out. I was in trouble.
I had to think fast.
Goofy Guy was still nowhere to be found. There must have been some line at
guest services. Right...
Just then, I noticed a beautiful sparkling star just outside the window. It
was shining a ray of light onto the side table between the boys' beds. It was
as if the star was trying to tell me something. It was pointing to a piece
of paper that said something about bedtime Disney stories on television. Could
it be true? Was Disney actually going to help my dear nephews fall asleep and
more importantly, help Goofy Gal remain in the good books of her dear nephews?
Do fairytales really do come true? I believe, I believe!
All right! So it wasn't exactly a star shining through the window. It was more
like the bathroom light being reflected from the mirror onto the side table.
But I ask you, which story would you rather believe??
I quickly turned on the TV and found the correct bedtime story channel. They
were reading the last few minutes of Toy Story II. The boys knew the story
well, so they quickly caught up to all that was happening. They were mesmerized.
The story ended and the announcer said that the next book would begin in another
15 minutes or so. Boomer asked if we could stay up and hear the next story.
I was sure Goofy Guy was sitting at the bar drinking a margarita.
But wait. Did I just hear correctly? Did Splashboy really just tell Boomer
that they're only allowed one story because they have to get up early to go
to the Magic Kingdom? God Bless him! Boomer agreed and proceeded to get under
the covers. Did I mention I love these boys!? I didn't think it could get any
better, but it did. BOTH boys wanted me to give them goodnight hugs and kisses!
I'd won the jackpot!
Take
your time Goofy Guy, I’ve got this bedtime thing covered.
The
boys were happy, I was happy and no bribes or threats were necessary.
Visions of Mickey and kryptonite danced in their heads as they
faded off to sleep.
I put the straws and ice cubes within reach of the boys on the
nightstand (they still couldn’t bear the thought of putting
them away) and turned out the light. I grabbed a couple chairs
and carried them just outside the door. I sat down to enjoy the
lovely evening temperature, to read and write my trip report. What
a glorious day.
Talk about perfect timing. I was just getting settled when Goofy guy comes
walking down the hall. I think he was whistling, but I may have just imagined
it.
We sat together companionably and discussed our great evening. We looked into
Dapper Dad & Fanlover's old room and noticed that their luggage had been
moved back. Relief! Here's to no more wet carpet for the rest of the trip.
It was nice having all of our rooms in a row again. After a few minutes, Dapper
Dad and Fanlover floated by.
And I do mean floated! They had an absolute magical dinner! Narcoossee's turned
out to be even better than imagined. I demanded a play-by-play of their evening.
It occurred to me that Fanlover hadn't been this animated since, since, well
our lunch at the Sci Fi diner. They were able to get a window seat where they
enjoyed every bite of their dinner. The view was beautiful. They said that
as they looked across to the Contemporary hotel, they were wondering how our
dinners were going at Chef Mickey’s and California Grill respectively.
I do believe that some of their magic was due to the fact they could enjoy
Surf & Turf without worrying about paying for the tab. It looked like 6
of the 8 of us had fantastic evenings. Would ToT sis and Cocoa bil fare so
well?
Before we would find out, Dapper Dad realized that his new room key did not
work in the door. Geez man! Will their room problems never end?
What’s next, will their toilet overflow tomorrow?
Um, I’ll be in the Magic Kingdom if that happens….
Dapper Dad phoned the front desk from our room. They said
they would send a CM to their new room immediately to reprogram
the code.
We continued to gush about how wonderful our evenings were, when ToT sis and
Cocoa bil arrived. I didn't think it would be possible, but they may have been
even more excited than the rest of us. Their dinner at California Grill had
been a dream. Similarly to Dapper Dad and Fanlover at Narcoossee's, they also
managed to get a window seat. They enjoyed their flat bread and sushi, when
the fireworks began. They marvelled how different the fireworks look from California
Grill as compared to in front of the castle. Later, they enjoyed the water
parade - twice! ToT sis couldn't believe how wonderful both the food and ambience
had been. The filet mignon and pork were prepared to perfection. Had it all
been a dream?
ToT sis joked that future trips are now ruined. They’ll all be compared
to this one. I'd have to agree. However, that won't stop me from trying to
top this trip – again and again and again. Who’s
with me?
To all you Clay Aiken fans out there, if he has a twin brother, I met him tonight.
He works at Disney and he came to Dapper Dad's room to program the new code.
He looks and sounds just like Clay. I resisted the urge to ask him to sing
Bridge Over Troubled Water. He would have woken up the boys. That’s the
only thing that stopped me you understand.
Success! Clay’s twin did a great job. Dapper Dad's hotel card worked.
Fingers crossed that this would mark the end of this trip's room saga. We had
two full days left together which left no time to hang out with the gang at
guest services. And anyway, I can always see Clay on television.
It was time to call it a day. We all agreed that our gathering outside our
rooms tonight discussing our fantastic evenings was actually a highlight of
the trip so far. I can’t even adequately capture how genuinely excited
everyone seemed to be. Whoever said Disney is only for children, obviously
hasn’t experienced the night my family just had. It really was amazing.
A couple of us went for a quick swim and yes, you guessed it, Cocoa bil still
managed to find room for his nightly hot chocolate. I must remember to ask
him if Disney hot chocolate tastes better than anything he gets at home. My
money's on yes. Disney magic
had indeed been working overtime.
Tomorrow, another family member joins the celebrity ranks of Cocoa bil. We
discover just how Dapper Dad earned his name.
