Jobs FAQ
Job-Related
Questions
Q. Can I submit
a resume for jobs in several areas of the Company at the same
time?
A. You can submit a resume for any number of positions for which
you believe your experience is a match with the requirements specified.
If you are using electronic response, it will be necessary to
re-enter the data for each new submission.
Note: Individuals responding to job postings are considered applicants
for a particular position only after they have been invited to
complete the Company's official printed employment application
form.
Q. What is
the interview process like?
A. If you are called to come in for an interview, in most cases,
you will meet with a Human Resources Department representative.
(Certain positions also may require skill testing.) If all goes
well, you can anticipate meeting with several other individuals
before a decision to hire is made. This may require more than
one visit to the offices. Of course, references will be checked
before any offer of employment is extended.
Q. I saw an
ad for your open position. What is the salary range?
A. The Company offers competitive compensation. Salaries will
vary depending on the skills and years of experience required.
Q. I sent
my resume in a couple of days ago. How long will it take before
I can schedule an interview?
A. You will receive an acknowledgment that your resume has been
received. Should a currently available position match well with
your qualifications, you will be contacted to set up an interview
appointment. In addition, your resume will be entered into our
database for our recruiters to access for future opportunities.
Q. Where can
I get information on internships or the Company's college program?
A. The Company offers many opportunities for an internship experience
for graduate and undergraduate students. You can find out more
information about specific Business Unit programs, such as the
Walt Disney World College Program, by checking out College
Program. Generally, resumes may be submitted year round to
addresses listed at the end of the Resume Tips.
Q. Do you
have any part-time jobs?
A. Some business areas of the Company do regularly offer part-time
employment opportunities -- The Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney
World Resort, and The Disney Store, for example. Information concerning
the availability of any part-time jobs usually will be posted
on this Web site or listed through our JOBS Lines: (818) 558-2222†
in Burbank or (407) 828-1000† in Orlando.
Q. How do
I find out about career opportunities at The Disney Store in my
local community?
A. We recommend you contact a member of management at your local
Disney Store. He/she will be happy to assist you, or direct you
to a District Manager for additional information.
Creative
and Talent-Related Questions
Q. Do you
have any openings in production?
A. Several divisions of the Company hire for production positions.
Some of these positions may require that applicants be currently
registered with the appropriate union. Try searching for available
production positions under our Career Search. The production companies
that produce our films and TV shows conduct their own hiring,
and you would have to apply to them directly.
Q. I am an
actor (director, etc.). How do I get my resume and photos (demo
reel) to you?
A. Actors who are selected for our television or feature film
productions are first submitted to casting directors by a qualified
talent agency. The agency submits directly to the production company
the resumes and headshots it feels would fit satisfactorily. We
encourage you to seek out a talent agency to appropriately represent
you. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend an agent or agency.
Q. Where do
I go to school to become an illustrator or animator?
A. We cannot recommend a particular college or art school. That
is an individual decision. The Walt Disney Feature Animation group,
however, does distribute a recommended course of study for students.
Also, we actively recruit on a number of campuses for talented
individuals in this area. For more information, check our Events
& Auditions or write to our Feature Animation group at the address
provided under the Who We Are section.
Q. I am an
animator. What should I send you?
A. For information on submission guidelines, check out Walt Disney
Feature Animation and Walt Disney Television Animation in the
Who We Are section.
Q. I am a
screenwriter. Can I send you my script for review?
A. It is the policy of the Company not to accept the submission
of ideas such as scripts, design concepts, etc., without prior
authorized invitation. However, the acceptance for review of scripts
submitted via agents accredited by the Writers Guild of America,
or such other guild, to authorized staff of the Walt Disney Studio
is permitted.
Q. How can
I get to be an entertainer at Disney?
A. If you are interested in employment opportunities in entertainment
at Disney theme parks, call the Audition Information Hotline at
(407) 397-3220† for more detailed information about talent categories
and audition schedules.
Online
Job Search Questions
Q. How can
I check job opportunities if I do not have regular access to a
computer?
A. The Company maintains JOBS Lines that persons can call to hear
the current jobs available throughout the organization. This information
is updated weekly and includes information on where to send your
resume. The JOBS Lines can be accessed by dialing (818) 558-2222†
and (407) 828-1000†.
Q. How will
I know my resume information has been received?
A. If you are submitting resume information online, you will receive
an e-mail response informing you that your resume has been received.
Those sending resumes by fax or regular mail will receive a postcard
by return mail to indicate that the information has arrived.
Q. How can
I be sure that a position I apply for online hasn't already been
filled?
A. Positions are posted online for a maximum period of 30 days.
Every effort will be made to remove job postings as soon as a
position is filled. You will receive an acknowledgment of resume
receipt and will be contacted by one of our recruiters if your
resume information is a match with the requirements of the open
position.
Q. What should
I do if I discover a mistake in my online resume after I've submitted
it?
A. Once the online resume information has been sent, it will be
necessary to re-enter the requested information in order to correct
any errors in the original submission.
Q. Once I've
submitted my resume online, who has access to it? Can I request
that only the supervisors for the job(s) I select have access
to my professional information?
A. All resume information received by the Company is considered
confidential and will be made available only to individuals whose
position within our Company indicates a need to view that information.
If you do not wish our Human Resources department to consider
you for positions beyond the one for which you originally applied,
you may indicate this in the additional information section of
the resume submission form or in your cover letter.
Q. What is
text-only format?

customized print style. You should save the file in your word-processing
program as a Plain, Simple, or Text file.

Jobs at WDW Imagineering
Walt Disney
Imagineering (WDI) is the creative development, master planning,
design, engineering, production, project management, and research
and development area of Disney. From "blue sky" conceptualization
to final installation, WDI is responsible for the creation of
all Disney Resorts, theme parks, and attractions; real-estate
developments and communities; regional entertainment venues; and
cyberspace/new media projects. WDI is headquartered in Glendale,
with affiliated offices and facilities in North Hollywood, California;
New York City and East Hampton, New York; Cambridge, Massachusetts;
and Celebration, Florida; as well as satellite branches at every
Disney theme park location.
In the early
1950s, Walt Disney hand-picked some of his Studio's best creative
talents to form WED Enterprises (named for Walter Elias Disney)
for the express purpose of planning, designing, and building Disneyland.
Later renamed Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), it has continually
broken new ground in the theme park industry, while expanding
the frontiers in other realms of entertainment. In May 1996, WDI
joined forces with Disney Development Company, which had established
itself as one of the world's leading real-estate development and
management organizations since its inception in 1984.
WDI has embarked
on an unprecedented menu of projects, including three completely
new Disney Theme Parks: Disney's Animal Kingdom™ Park at the Walt
Disney World Resort in Florida (set to open Spring 1998), Tokyo
DisneySea in Japan (now entering its final design phase), and
Disney's California Adventure, a totally new concept being developed
for The Disneyland Resort in California. In addition to its continuing
work on expansion and renovation projects for the existing Parks,
WDI is also charting new territory by partnering with other Disney
businesses on projects across the U.S.A. and around the world.
One such project, DisneyQuest, a new concept in family regional
entertainment, will open at Walt Disney World in 1998 and in Chicago
in 1999.
A note regarding
portfolio submissions: To help WDI fairly assess your abilities,
please follow these guidelines for organizing your portfolio:
- You must
include a resume.
- Please
specify the area of interest in your cover letter. If you have
examples of your work, please send them. Make sure they are
copies, as we will not be able to return them.
- If you
submit a videotape, please outline specifically, scene by scene,
work done on that tape by you (NO MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES IN
LENGTH).
