Whispering Canyon Cafe (Wilderness Lodge)

Join us for a hootin', hollerin' great time. The food & fun never stop at Whispering Canyon Cafe!
Sit back & relax as our rowdy crowd entertains you & enjoy the best vittles east of the Rockies. Diners are encouraged to sing & wave their napkins in the air at regular intervals, & there are other surprises in store!

Overlooking the expansive, log-structured lobby, Whispering Canyon Cafe offers a family-style, all-you-can-eat feast in an American West motif.

"We hope to achieve a homelike feeling with old-fashioned cooking served family-style," said Katie Moore, restaurant food and beverage manager. "It's almost as if this is a way station where traders and barterers gather to share stories and enjoy a hearty meal."

Here, a pit-master chef divulges recipes from generations past as he serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes from a cast-iron skillet.

"We are using natural cooking techniques -- smoking, grilling and barbecuing -- which are consistent with the time period the lodge reflects," said Richard Jennings, chef. "We hope our guests will feel as though they are dining in another era."

Aromas of breakfast meats, home fries and scrambled eggs welcome hungry pioneers to breakfast. As high noon approaches, you can choose our family style skillet lunch or pick from our full a la carte menu featuring hot and cold sandwiches, salads and a full-choice dessert board.

Suppertime features an all-you-can-eat sampling of apple-roasted chicken, jumbo smoked turkey leg, maple garlic spareribs and grilled trail sausage, served with salads, vegetables, home-made breads and fruit cobbler for dessert.

Typical menu items - (breakfast) eggs, bacon, sausage, smoked beef brisket, pancakes, french toast, waffles, grits, oatmeal, fruit plate, cereal.

"This restaurant has prime location, right in the beautiful lobby of Wilderness Lodge. My boyfriend and I were staying at the lodge for a long weekend and wanted to make it a point to stop by for a meal. We decided to have breakfast on a Saturday morning. We put our name on the list around 10:30(breakfast is over at 11:00) and recieved a beeper. We decided to walk across the lobby to the store, but by the time we reached the mercantile our pager was already going off. I recommend going for breakfast around this time because the cafe is not as crowded, but still fun! The serving staff is great entertainment, it is almost like a Disney dinner show, but not the same price. About the prices, we found this to be the best deal in Disney!! We each ordered an All-You-Can-Eat skillet, which includes hash browns, eggs, waffle, breakfast bread, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy for only $10.00 each! A steal! We also ordered All-You-Can-Drink milk shakes for $5.00! What a great deal, only $15.00 for all the food and drink you can consume! The atmosphere is very fun and family oriented. With loud jokes and singing off-key. We laughed all the way through our meal! I highly recommend stopping by for a great meal. A must see!" (8/03) Laura

"Made a priority seating for dinner (6:30pm) and only waited about 5 minutes upon arrival. Food was good but the best part was that the kids (ages 11 and 5) had a great time. Our youngest one got to stand up on his chair and with the help of a microphone, he called out for some ketchup! One of our best nights in Disney. Definitely a family fun place for dinner." "I really liked the atmosphere and the food and they gave you plenty ofit on the skillet. Also tried the Peanut butter shake it was interesting. Yes we did have to make resorvations but we made those through the concierge desk in our hotel." (11/02) Ted

"Highly recommend this place! They have an all-you-ca-eat-barbeque buffect that is excellent! However, priority seating is definitely a must! The first time I ever went to Disney was May, 1998 for my honeymoon and we stayed at Wilderness Lodge. We just happened to get lucky and got a table off the main dining room in front of a fireplace, which was very romantic. The second time we went was in Sept 2001 and it was much busier so we weren't as lucky. The service was still good and the fo o d was excellent, but the crowds were worse so I would definitely do the priority seating deal. The restaurant is set in a wilderness lodge so the wait staff is decked out in cowboy/girl outfits. You won't meet any Disney characters but the staff is VERY entertaining. They have wooden horse races for the kids and really make a big deal out of birthday boys and girls...no matter how old. (there was a 21-year-old who got a special race around the room and a special dessert.) Get the buffet - they bring out a huge skillet with brisket, baked beans, corn on the cob, ribs, chicken, turkey legs, etc. If you want more, just ask for what you want and they'll bring oyu a whole new skillet or just the items you want. You can even get all-you-can-drink milkshakes! Bring a big appetite and enjoy the show!
The atmosphere is GREAT! The staff is very friendly and funny. The food is excellent and there is always something entertaining happening so kids will not be bored just because there are no Disney characters floating around. If you have to wait, the Lodge itself is beautiful and full of things to discover...they even have story-time in front of a huge fireplace in the lobby. Since the restaurant is right off the lobby, it makes the wait bearable. The Lodge and this retaurant are not t o be missed!" (1/02) Clara

"Whispering Canyon was a lot of fun. It's very much familly oriented and we had both lunch and dinner there. The dinner featured an all you can eat skillet of varous barbequed meats, chicken, pork beef, turkey leg, etc. It was way more than we could eat! The entertainment featured everything from galloping waiters, to a guest who had to ride a wooden pony around the dining room to tryouts for the Pony Express." Debbie Maguire

"Breakfast at the Whsipering Canyon Cafe is WONDERFUL!!!!!"
