San Angel Inn continues a rich and fascinating tradition...a story
of hospitality woven into the tapestry of Mexcio itself. Traced
back to 1692, this beautiful hacienda was a tranquil retreat for
Spanish aristocracy in Colonial Mexico. After Mexican Independence,
it hosted some of the country's most famous figures, from General
Santa Ana to Pancho Villa. In 1915 the hacienda became a popular
restaurant and, in 1962, it was named the San Angel Inn, one of
the finest restaurants in Mexico. Here in the style and spirit of
Old Mexico, we welcome you.
Unlike most Mexican restaurants in the United States, you'll not
find nachos, "Mexican pizza" or hard-shell tacos at the San Angel
Inn in Epcot, because, says manager Richard Debler, they are not
authentic Mexican dishes. And Debler was trained in his family's
restaurant in Mexico City.
Chocolate may sound like an unorthodox ingredient to use with chicken,
but the mole poblano prepared according to a San Angel Inn recipe
combines chile ancho, chile passilla, green tomatoes, ground tortillas,
coriander seed and 11 other spices with cocoa for a rich sauce in
which chicken is simmered until tender. Fresh tortillas are made
every day and served with beef, chicken and cheese fillings, as
well as fresh salsa verde.

"This is my second review of the San Angel Inn but it just
keeps getting better! Each time we go, my husband and I make Priority
Seating reservations and have yet to wait more than 5-7 minutes.
The best of the best seat are directly on the water. From there
you can see the temple, volcano, and wave to the riders of "El
Rio de Tiempo." Almost every seat in the restaurant is good.
However I have noticed there is a dining area to the left of the
check-in desk near the restrooms. I would refuse to sit there, there
is less ambiance and a lot of traffic. The menu hasn't changed but
the food gets better each time we go. For months until we go to
Epcot, my husband begins talking about the 'Queso Fundido' as an
appetizer. It is a mix of cheese, chorizo, and pepper and wrapped
into a tortilla. Your waiter doesn't just leave it at your table,
he/she mixes the cheese mixture and makes the tortilla for you.
Quite a show! Service is always exceptional. The staff is very friendly.
Guaranteed: the best dish on the menu is 'Pollo a las Rajas!'I have
nothing poor to say about this restaurant. It has become one of
our favorite Disney traditions. P.S. Awesome margaritas!!! "

"I went here on vacation with my boyfriend and his grandparents.
This was the best experience I've had in a while. I enjoyed the
scenery the most. I've never been to Mexico but I feel now like
i have! We decided to have dinner there and we waited about 10 minutes
to be seated. It didn't seem that long because there are many things
to look at while you are waiting like: rugs, wooden crafts, drinking
glasses, dishes, and all the salsas. We were seated in the front
of the seating area. Our waiter who was extreamly nice and polite
brought us our drinks and our fabulous tortillas and salsa. That
was the best part of the meal! I had ordered the pork and rice and
beans. Im not quite sure what it was exactly called. It was very
very good. Although it was fairly dark in there it was so peaceful!
I didn't want to leave and I wished I would have taken my camera
because now I am searching everywhere to get some pictures of inside
San Angel Inn Restaurante." (9/02) Rachel
"The San Angel is my new favorite resturaunt at Epcot. My
fiance was adament about having a special, romantic dinner. I am
a burger and fries girl so I was a little apprehensive about him
spending money on food I wasn't sure of. But once we were there
my mind changed! We requested a table right on the water...the nachos
and salsa were the best... our entress were superb. I had the Pollo
A Las Rajas. (I'm still dreaming about it)Worth every penny! Go
experience it!!! Priority Seating is a must and request a seat directly
on the water. Bring your camera." (3/02) Kristen
"San Angel Inn is my husband and my favorite restaurant in
Disney! We eat there at least once every time we visit Walt Disney
World. We even dined at the same time as George Lucas and Carrie
Fisher, of STAR WARS fame, one time(and have the pictures to prove
it!!FUN!) The ambiance is incredible and very romantic. Our favorite
appetizer is the "Queso Fundido" and we have yet to have had an
entree we did not like. We are usually too full for a dessert! Margaritas
are great! I realize that the prices may seem high, but when contrasted
with the quality and excellence of the food we would pay more to
dine there. A must if you have only one restaurant to choose from
in Epcot! On our ten year anniversary we arrived at Disney earlier
than anticipated. We were in Epcot and decided to see if there were
any open reservations at the San Angel Inn. There were none to be
had. My husband explained that it was our anniversary and the wonderful,
super friendly and clearly a romantic at heart hostess stashed us
in a corner table where it was so cozy and romantic. We love it
there!" Jac (10/01)
"The San Angel Inn was Una Marvillosa!! (marvelous) It was
an excellent dining experience for us. The atmosphere was awesome.
Right under the moonlit volcano, this restaurante was enchanting.
The tortilla chips and salsa were the best i had ever eaten. The
entrees were a little bit pricey, but worth every penny. I had the
Puntas de fillete or steak tips mexican style. They were served
with mexican rice and vegetable and the sauces and spices used were
extravagant. Also me and my mother split this entree and it was
just enough for both of us. A friend had the Nachos and she said
that they were really good too. If you like authentic mexican cousine
you should definately dine here. EXCELLENT!! It is going to be a
Disney trip regular." Mandy
"I understand what people have to say about the atmosphere....incredible
and yes, VERY romantic! If you can believe it...DH and I were still
full from lunch. Our PS at San Angel was for 6pm and we were seated
right about that time. We only had about 4 hours between our meals
since we really didn't leave Teppanyaki til about 2:30 or so. We
had even gone back to our room and rested a bit. DH and I started
with the Nachos. We took out the Mexican sausage and replaced it
with chicken since DH doesn't eat beef or pork. They were quite
good. I had the Sopa Azteca (tortilla soup) to start with...VERY
GOOD! I had the Camarones Fideos (shrimp pasta mexican style) and
I really didn't like it. The cilantro was overwhelming and I ended
up just eating the shrimp out of it. DH had the Mahi Mahi Veracruz
and he enjoyed his. He mostly ate just his Mahi, but only because
he was still full from lunch. I had tea and DH had lemonade. For
dessert we did the Arroz Leche. Strangely enough I can't remember
what it was, but I do remember it made up for my BLAH dinner. Our
server was Heriberto and he was very polite. DH even spoke the basic
spanish to him, it was quite cool. The cost of our meal was $59.35
and with the 15% grat of $8.90, that brings the grand total to $71.82!"

"This restuarant is wonderful for lunch. It tends to be less
busy and still offers an excellent dining experience. For a couple
without children, I recommend splitting two entrees. They are very
large in size. My favorites are the Nachos and the Plato Mexicano
(Sampler)." Joseph Wold
