"We made reservations in the morning when we arrived at the
park and were seated within 10 min. of our reservation time. Our
food was very good, especially the Pot Roast. We returned later
in the week for a second helping. It was a lot of fun, too. Our
waitress was really into it." (5/04) Carol
"I was really disappointed with this restaurant. My boyfriend
kept talking about the 50's cafe and that he wanted to try the food.
So, we decided to meet up with my sister and brother-in-law for
lunch. Our reservations were for 2:30. We checked in about 5 minutes
early and waited about 15 minutes, which is pretty short. But the
waiting area was very very HOT!!! It was mid-August and they had
the doors open so the AC was just going right outside. We were sitting
in a 'living room' while we waited which was furnished with plastic
couches, I understand this because of the theme, but it was so hot
in there we all stuck to the sofa! I was under the impression that
each table had its own TV, but we were seated at a table in the
middle of the 'dining room' and our TV was over head so it was only
visible for my boyfriend and I because of the way we were facing.
Also, you can not hear what they are saying! Our waitress came and
started ranting about something loudly, which we expected, but her
accent was so strong and she talked so fast it was hard to understand
her. I kept asking her to repeat herself, I didnt want to be rude
so finally I stopped. The food was also another disappointment.
My sister ordered a club sandwhich and the bread was old. I had
cheese fries and when I got them the cheese had already cooled and
the fries were not fully cooked. I love Disney and think it is great,
but they need to come through this restaurant again and fix some
things. Avoid this restaurant at all costs!" (8/03) Laura
"I had the opportunity to eat at this restaurant in December
2002. One of my friends "misbehaved" by making a face at the 5 year
old sitting next to us, and he was made to sit in the corner, while
the other diners laughed on... it was Fantastic! I had my elbows
on the table and was made to sing I'm a little teapot to the crowd.
I told my waiter that I didn't know the words and he said "that's
ok, I have them right here!" and he pulled out a laminated card
with the words printed on it... My other friend had some dirt underneath
his fingernails and was ordered to go wash his hands... when he
came back from the bathroom the waiter asked him what color the
soap was... my friend said Blue... the waiter said "that's wrong!
It's GREEN!" and made him go back and wash his hands for a second
time. It was a great great time and I look forward to dining there
again.. Truly unique!" (7/03) Lindsaye
"This place is totally different to any restaurant that I
have ever eaten in before. If you are quite a shy and reserved person,
then this may not be the place for you as the waitresses like nothing
more than to embarass you in front of the other diners. I went there
with my girlfriend and her parents. The meals were quite large,
and by the end I decided that I couldn't eat some of my vegatables
so, knowing that the waitress would do something to "shame me",
I hid them underneath a napkin on my plate. My girlfriend's dad
thought it would be hilarious to point this fact out to the waitress,
hoping to embarass me, but his plan backfired. Instead of ridiculing
me, she told everyone in the restaurant to be quiet, then made him
stand up and perform "I'm a little teapot" in front of everyone.
Needless to say if you want a quite dining experience go elsewhere,
otherwise I would strongly recommend this as it is great fun!"

"My parents and I had lunch here in May 2000. This is a very
fun restaurant, but you'd better be in a good mood when you go,
otherwise you might not appreciate the humor in your server telling
you, "You'd better clean your plate, or no dessert for you!" We
had a PS and were seated within 15 minutes. The decor in this restaurant
is great and it's fun to see the old tv shows while you wait and
eat. The service is also very good - servers were friendly, attentive
and fun. The food is also very good, down-home style cooking. My
dad had the meatloaf, my mom had the pot roast and I had the fried
chicken. All were very good, as were the sides, and came in large
portions. Since I ate all my lunch, I got a "Clean Plate" sticker
and was told by our server that I could get dessert - but I was
too full! Great experience. Lots of fun. Good food. Friendly service.
Would definitely go again." (5/03) Shane
"Our dining experience at the Prime Time Cafe was horrible.
It started when our server dropped the light up ice cube on the
floor next to a piece of stepped on lettuce and proceeded to put
the ice cube in my daughter's drink. Our server's only comment was,
"good thing I washed my hands!" My comment to him was, "what about
the floor?" He did not even offer to bring a replace ice cube or
rinse it off. He continued to serve the drink to my daughter. The
family at the next table even commented that they couldn't believe
that he just served us that drink. The meal only gets better when
at the end of the meal he "force" feeds my daughter mash potatoes
by holding her nose and putting a large forkful in her mouth. I
told her that she did not have to eat them and was appauled that
he did this! What example does this teach our children? He only
let go of her nose when I raised my voice at him that she is now
gagging on her food. I understand the atmosphere of the restuarant,
but this has gone too far. If our server was paying any attention,
he would have noticed that we had ordered my daughter a side of
fries because she doesn't eat mashed potatoes. I think that if a
parent says that you don't have to eat something, no one has the
authority to supercede that decision. This server had clearly overstepped
his boundaries. I have recommended to a number of friends NOT to
eat at this establishment. I am horrified that this happened to
my daughter and she still talks about this incident. When I child
politely says "no, thank you," that should count for something.
It you eat here, you are at your own risk." (11/02) Ann Vaughan
"We were seated immediately (had a 5:30 p.m. priority seating
time). The service is great - the cafe is a blast to go to. It felt
like going into my grandmother's kitchen! All the "old" shows were
playing on tv's all around the room. The atmosphere is what really
makes this place, but the food is excellent. We were all so stuffed,
but my eight year old cleaned his plate so that we could have desert
- smores! You have to try this place at least once - it is worth
being told "keep your elbows off the table" once!!!" (8/02)

"We ate at the 50's Prime Time Cafe on Feb 10, 2002. We had
PS for 6:25 and were seated at 7:00. That was fine for us because
it gave my husband and I a chance to enjoy a drink at the bar before
sitting down for dinner. Cat, our waitress, was wonderful and really
got everyone into the spirit of the resturant. The food was satisfying
for all (there were 6 of us)and one of the diners became a member
of the "clean plate club". We had a birthday celebration while there
and the birthday girl was given a cupcake at the end of the meal
with everyone in our dining area joining in to sing Happy Birthday.
If you want to have fun during dinner and can get into the spirit
of the restuarant, I highly recommend the Prime Time." (2/02)

"This restaurant is a must if you are looking for something
different. Be sure to go in with a healthy appitite though! Your
waitress (who is your mother, aunt, cousin, etc..) will admonish
you if you don't. While we were there a grandfather was placed in
the corner for trying to put his uneaten food on his grandson's
plate--very funny!! They also have good wholesome food--their pot
roast is excellent. And for those who don't like mixed veggies,
just ask to substitute something else. We substituted Corn on the
Cob and so didn't get in trouble for not cleaning our plates. An
excellent experience for anyone whose a child at heart!" Sherry
"I just got back December 22,2001 from WDW and ate at this
restaurant for lunch, what a fun experience.Everytime I go it is
such a difficult decision...meatloaf or pot roast! The food is awesome
and I love the fun you can have if you participate. In the section
we were in there were 4 tables of complete strangers and at the
end of the meal we exchanged our day events at the park plus many
laughs during the meal. The food is very good and so homemade that
it is a must when I go to MGM." (12/01) claudine
"This could have been a great location. The meal started off
badly though. You are made to set the table to start with. After
a long day at the park, the last thing on my mind was doing something
I can do at home for free. The meal was average. I was told by our
waitress "ma" to eat all my green beans or I would be in trouble.
Not really being in the mood I deposited the beans in a napkin,
excused myself to the restroom and threw them out. When I got back
"ma" had seen me get rid of my beans, and then spoon fed me a bowl
of new beans with a airplane spoon. I know that it was funny to
the people in my group, and the people around us laughed as well,
but these off beat shenanigans were un-welcome. I never had the
opportunity to decline. I know the actors were just doing there
job, but I'll avoid this restaurant when I return. If you do not
want to be made part of the show, and are just looking for a place
to unwind, avoid the 50's cafe." (10/01) Don
"My husband John and I celebrated a belated 5-year anniversary
by spending two fabulous weeks at WDW, from 29 Nov/13 Dec 2000.
While there we enjoyed many wonderful meals, however two really
stand out in my mind: dinner at the Yachtsman Steakhouse at the
Yacht Club Resort, and dinner at the 50's Prime Time Cafe at MGM.
My favorite meal, however, was at the 50's Prime Time Cafe. We made
PS (it's a good thing we did - they were packed!), and I believe
that we ended up having to wait a few extra minutes. But that was
ok. I knew we were in for a real treat as soon as we walked in the
door! It was like walking back into time - right into a home from
the 1950's! The furnature, lamps and decorations were authentic
to the time period. Old black-and-white TV sets scattered around
the "living room" played '50's shows and commercials. The decor
was perfect - right down to the aluminum Christmas tree! While we
waited for our table, we enjoyed a drink at the bar. It wasn't long,
however, before someone began yelling for "Those Brewer Kids", calling
us to dinner! It was like being at home for a family gathering with
"Aunts" and "Uncles" and "Cousins" (the servers). Although it was
just the two of us, we were not ignored or left to our own devices.
We had to set out our own place settings. We we! re admonished to
keep our elbows off the table. And my husband received a "Clean
Plate Club" sticker (I tried to hide some food under the napkin,
but my "Aunt" found it...). And it was great how everyone in the
room joined in the fun - total strangers telling each other to eat
their veggies or to clean their plates if they wanted dessert. I
even saw an "Aunt" trying to feed greenbeans to a fellow at a nearby
table!!!
Again, a wonderful meal. I had the Magnificent Meatloaf and John
had Mom's Fried Chicken. He also enjoyed one of their fabulous shakes.
So much food! I had made the mistake of ordering the Fried Cheese
as an appetizer (I forget what John had). It was delicious, but
WAY too much food! How does anyone clean their plate???
I would definitely recommend both restaurants, however the Yachtsman
is more of an "adult" restaurant with that type of atmosphere, while
the 50's Prime Time is great for kids of all ages. Go. Enjoy. Take
an appetite!" Donna Brewer
"Our absolutely can't miss place every year we go, is the
Prime Time Cafe in MGM, great Meat Loaf dinner amongst other items
and don't forget to get good ole Smores for desert. The atmosphere
is a lot of fun especially with "Mom"(waitress) watching the pitcher
of beer count she brings to our table. If you just want a quick
beer & snack, sit at the bar in the lounge area, they have great
Nachos."--Dan DVC '92
"The 50's Prime Time Cafe is a must, make reservations and
you will only have to wait a short time. All the waitresses are
named Mom, and they treat you as if you are their children. It is
a great leisurely lunch you need about an hour." msgpk@juno.com
"I strongly recommend prime time 50's to anyone with or
without kids. My three experiences, once with kids twice without,
at the restaurant where very enjoyable."
"What MGM's 50's Prime time cafe lacks in gourmet dining
it more than makes up for in fun. Don't go there for a quiet family
meal. The waiter/waitresses "mom" and "dad" keep you on your toes
or rather your elbows off the table. They mainly correct the parents
and the kids love it."
