How long have you worked at WDW?
I first started on the College Program back in the Fall '98, returned
during the Summer '00, and am returning for the Fall Advantage Program
June'01.
Where in WDW do you work?
The Fall and Summer that I worked there, I was an attractions hostess
at the Studios Backlot Tour (Shuttles) at The Disney/MGM Studios. This
time I'll be a Hospitality Hostess stationed in one of the resorts,
but as of now, don't know which resort.
What would be a typical day's work for you?
A typical workday for me at Shuttles would be loading and unloading
guests from the shuttle trams, giving a 30-40 minute spiel, driving
the shuttles, dispatching the shuttles, making sure that the guest area
is kept neat and tidy (no trash), and just engaging in normal conversation
with guests as they pass through through-out the day.
What do you like most about working at WDW?
My favorite thing about working at WDW would have to be getting to meet
so many different people from all over the world...whether their guests
or cast members. It's amazing to work someplace where people are always
smiling and laughing. You know you're appreciated and that you truly
are making a difference. You're helping to make wonderful memories for
kids and families to look back on years from now.
Do you have a particular magical memory that sticks
in your mind, from working at WDW?
Yes I do! It wasn't anything that I had done, but what I saw. It was
my day off and I was in The Studios and had sat down to take a break
for a minute. There was a character greeting location next to where
I was sitting, so I was watching kids and couples getting their pictures
taken with Mickey Mouse. Towards the end of the line there were these
2 little girls, about 4 and 6, and you could just tell they were soooo
excited and couldn't wait to get up there. When it was finally their
turn, they started laughing and screaming and just ran up to Mickey
and threw thier arms around him. They kept yelling, "Oh Mickey, We love
you! We love you Mickey" and just covering him with hugs and kisses.
The whole scene actually brought tears to my eyes. It made me remember
just how special Walt Disney World really is. It reminded of the innocent
minds of hearts of the kids that are there, and to those two little
girls...it really was the Live version of their favorite animated character.
Not just a costume. I think back to that memory often. Especially if
I'm having a bad day at work, or for when, during a brief moment, start
to become disenchanted with place.
If you could give one tip to someone visiting WDW,
what would it be?
Try to experience as much as possible. I would deginately recommend
taking time to see each of the evening parades/fireworks shows...you'll
never see anything like them anywhere else. Also, a good place to view
the Magic Kingdom Fireworks is from the 15th Floor of the Contemporary
resort. There's a viewing deck off of "The California Grill" restaurant.
