Interview
with Ron Wrobel
How long have you worked at WDW?
Since January 2004
Where in WDW do you work?
Magic Kingdom, Adventureland/Liberty Square Attractions (Jungle
Cruise)
What does your job involve?
I am a "Skipper" at the Jungle Cruise. It is my job to
entertain 40 strangers for 10 minutes while narrating about the
sites found in Disney's version of the Jungle.
What do you like most about working at WDW?
The most rewarding thing about working at WDW is the fact that you
are creating lifetime memories for families. I will never forget
a child who was at WDW from the Make a Wish Foundation. This little
boy was 3 years old, and could not express himself at all (words).
All he wanted to do was come ride the Jungle Cruise over, and over,
and over again. We let him "drive" the boat. He rode that
ride for two days straight. As I think back now, I hope that he
still has those memories, but if he doesn't, I am sure that his
mother does. I had countless experiences like this. Children asking
for my autograph. It doesn't get any better then having a child
come up to you and say "Can I have your autograph?"
Do you have any secrets or inside info you can share?
Hidden Mickey's are EVERYWHERE! Ask any cast member, and I am sure
they can tell you their favorites. When we first come into the company
we are told to "preserve the magic," meaning, there are
some secrets that will remain secrets to all but those who work
at the parks.
Do you have any tips for people when meeting the characters?
Have fun! The worst thing you can do is just get a picture, pose
with them, talk to them. Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy are all
more than willing to have fun with you. Remember though, Mickey
is the official Mayor of the Magic Kingdom and fun is about the
only thing he takes seriously.
Do you have a particular magical memory that sticks in
your mind, from working at WDW?
I think every cast member walks away with different favorite
memories. Meeting celebraties, working for a Mouse, but for me,
it was that child from the Make a Wish Foundation. Disney means
so much to people, that it is easy to take for granted while working
at the happiest place on earth.
